The day after

Now that all the excitement of the Wild’s first game has passed I thought I would add some info about some discussions I heard on the radio about the Wild’s performance. Several people questioned if the Wild were actually that good or Colorado that bad and I believe it was about 50/50 each way. The Wild did look really good compared to how they have in past years but the Avs didn’t look like many expected them to either. The Avs seemed really confused and it looked like they were kind of in a daze. They are a very good team but very young. Their captain is just 21 years of age and as the TV stated he was the youngest captain in league history. The Wild have a slightly older team with their captain at 31 years of age.. so he has ten more years of experience compared to the Avs captain.

The Wild will face the Avs once again tomorrow night but they will be in Denver at the Pepsi Center. Backstrom should have the start in net for the Wild and frankly for me.. that is a good thing. In a new building you want a goalie who is familiar with the arena and what it feels like to play somewhere different. Kuemper will get there but I would wait until later in the season to put him in that situation. The Wild will have to up their game every night in order to be prepared for each new team they will have to face this season.

UND’s men’s and women’s teams have both started their seasons as well with their games actually kicking off tonight. The women facing Minnesota State and the men taking on Bemidji. Good luck to each team and the Wild tomorrow. I do have to work all day tomorrow so I will miss majority of the game.. so I will try to post afterwards. Hockey rocks and GO WILD!
